Interceptions Mentors

Exchange of knowledge from mentors

Interceptions is in full swing now after the introduction of the general idea of our exhibition from Prof Nancy! After visiting the NUS Museum and hearing from mentors- Tracey Hamilton and Nick Smithies, our various teams are set to work! It is going to be an exciting few weeks leading up to the showcase. I definitely learnt something from the various mentors and the opportunities to study the prep room in the NUS Museum as well as the NUS Arts Festival's marketing campaign.

The introduction of the prep room of the Buaya project gave me a clearer idea of how artists and curators come together to work on the curatorial process. It is supposed to be a space for artists to lay out their ideas so that they can visualise their data and plan their exhibition. I did not know that there were so many other interesting and creative ways of documenting the data collection process, such as pinning mini flags onto a Singapore map that indicated the location of crocodile sightings.

The trip to the NUS Museum for a talk by the NUS Arts Festival's A Brave New World marketing team provided further insights into the marketing aspect. This was timely given that it was down to our last few weeks of publicity and marketing efforts. Our mentor, Tracey Hamilton gave marketing tips prior to this talk and helped us to finalise our big idea and our campaign statement. This was important as emphasised by the NUS Arts Festival's marketing team because it would determine the way we want Interceptions to be marketed as. More importantly, we had to make our showcase special and different from other art events to entice others to attend. The speaker highlighted that we have to differentiate ourselves and consider the question, "what makes Interceptions unique?"

After the various sharing sessions by other mentors including Nick and Dr. Alexander, our class managed to learn more about the other softwares that we could engage to manage our social media presence. It was interesting to receive this exchange of knowledge from industry professionals who had the experience that we lacked. Thank you so much to the mentors and prof Nancy for arranging all these talks so that we can benefit from it!
